“Gas Safe registered” isn't a marketing badge — it is the legal standard for anyone working on gas in the UK. Since 2009 the Gas Safe Register has replaced the old CORGI scheme as the official list of engineers who are competent and licensed to install, service and repair gas appliances. By law, only a Gas Safe registered engineer may legally do that work in your property. It is an offence for anyone else to attempt it.

For a Brentwood homeowner or landlord that matters for a simple reason: gas faults are not like a dripping tap. A badly fitted flue, a leaking joint or an appliance burning incorrectly can produce carbon monoxide — colourless, odourless and potentially fatal. The register exists so you never have to take an engineer's word for it. Every genuine engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card, holds a unique licence number, and is qualified for specific types of appliance.

We carry out the full range of domestic gas work across Brentwood and the surrounding CM postcodes: boiler installs, services and repairs, gas fires and hobs, cooker connections, gas pipework, and Landlord Gas Safety Records (CP12). Every gas job is fixed-quoted before we start, backed by a 12-month labour guarantee, and we're insured. There's no call-out fee inside our coverage area, and we're on the end of the phone 24/7 for genuine gas emergencies.

How to check a Gas Safe engineer.

Don't take our word for it — or anyone else's. Checking takes two minutes and protects your household. We'd always rather you did.

Ask to see the ID card — both sides

  • Front: photo, the business name, a unique licence number and a Gas Safe hologram
  • Back: the exact appliance types the engineer is qualified for, each with an expiry date
  • Check the licence is in date — engineers renew every 12 months
  • Check the right category is listed — e.g. “boiler” for a boiler, “cooker” for a cooker

Confirm it on the official register

The qualifications on the card should match the job in front of you. To confirm the licence is genuine and current, check the number on the official register — it's free and public.

  • Search the licence number at gassaferegister.co.uk using “Check an engineer”
  • Or text the engineer's seven-digit licence number to the Gas Safe Register's SMS check service
  • You'll see the engineer's photo and the appliance categories they are licensed for

We're happy to show our Gas Safe ID card when we arrive, and you can confirm any engineer on the official register before work begins — that's exactly what it's for.

Local context

Gas work across Brentwood & the CM postcodes.

Brentwood's housing stock is a real mix, and gas work has to suit the property. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the town centre and Warley often have older pipework runs and flues that need careful assessment before a new boiler goes in. The post-war and 1960s–80s family homes through Hutton (CM13) and Shenfield (CM15) tend to have system or conventional boilers ripe for upgrade. Newer estates near the Elizabeth Line stations frequently run combis in tight cupboards where flue routing and ventilation matter.

We cover Brentwood (CM13/14/15) plus Billericay (CM12), Ingatestone (CM4) and the Chelmsford fringe. Whether it's a period conversion in Shenfield, a let flat near Brentwood station, or a family semi in Hutton, the same standard applies: the appliance is installed or repaired to manufacturer spec, the gas is sound, and you get the paperwork. Being local means we know the area, we're quick to reach you, and we're not disappearing after the job.

How it works

From call to certificate.

01

Call & describe the job

Tell us the appliance and the symptom — boiler fault, new install, fire or cooker connection. We give you a fixed quote, and an honest steer on whether it's worth repairing or replacing.

02

We attend & carry out the work

A Gas Safe registered engineer arrives — ID card ready to show. We do the work to spec, test the gas is sound, and clean up before we leave. No work starts without your OK on the price.

03

Paperwork & guarantee

You get the relevant gas safety documentation, manufacturer warranty registration on new installs, and a 12-month labour guarantee on the work. Keep the paperwork — it matters for insurance and resale.

FAQ

Gas Safe questions, answered.

What does “Gas Safe registered” actually mean?

It means the engineer is on the official Gas Safe Register — the legally required list of engineers competent and licensed to work on gas appliances in the UK. The register replaced CORGI in 2009. By law, only a Gas Safe registered engineer may install, service or repair gas appliances in your home.

How do I check you're genuinely registered?

Ask to see the ID card and check both sides — the front shows a photo, the business, a unique licence number and a hologram; the back lists the appliance types the engineer is qualified for, with expiry dates. Then confirm the licence number on the official register at gassaferegister.co.uk, or via their SMS check service. We're happy to show our Gas Safe ID card when we arrive.

Is it illegal to have a non-registered person work on my gas?

Yes — it is against the law for anyone who is not Gas Safe registered to carry out gas work. Beyond the legal side, unqualified gas work risks gas leaks, fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. It can also invalidate appliance warranties and home insurance. Always insist on a registered engineer.

What gas appliances do you work on?

Domestic gas and LPG boilers (combi, system and conventional), gas fires, gas hobs and cookers, and the gas pipework that supplies them. We also issue Landlord Gas Safety Records (CP12) for let property. The categories on our ID card confirm exactly what we're qualified for.

I can smell gas — what should I do right now?

Treat it as an emergency. Open doors and windows, don't touch electrical switches or naked flames, turn off the gas at the meter if you safely can, and leave the property. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. Once it's made safe, call us to find and fix the underlying fault.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No call-out fee for standard jobs inside our coverage area — Brentwood, Billericay, Hutton, Shenfield, Ingatestone and the Chelmsford fringe. We quote a fixed price before any work begins, and back the labour with a 12-month guarantee.
